The City of Sand Springs has 23 emergency warning sirens to warn our citizens of emergency events. These sirens have been positioned to give maximum warning coverage for our citizens who live within the corporate city limits of Sand Springs, although they may be heard for a considerable distance outside of our city limits. In addition to the three tones, Seek Shelter, Avoid Hazardous Area and National Emergency, our sirens are capable of delivering voice messages from our public safety officials.
In the event of the sounding of the emergency warning sirens, citizens are encouraged to to tune into local media outlets for more information. Please do not call 911 or the non-emergency line to inquire what the sirens are sounding for. Calling may prevent our communications dispatchers from answering true emergency calls. If you would like a more personalized way of having information delivered to you, please sign up for our emergency telephone notification system.
Siren Operation and Testing Sand Springs Sirens are live sound tested once a month on the first Wednesday at noon. If the weather is cloudy, no live test will be conducted so as to not cause confusion by the public. In addition, our sirens are tested every week using a silent test which checks the communication and functionality without alerting the public.
Automation Sand Springs sirens are linked to a service which sounds the sirens through automation if the City is included in a tornado warning by the National Weather Service. We always have employees that can sound sirens if needed, but the automation allows for the quickest notification possible.
Once the links are opened a mp3 audio file will automatically start playing.
